It was the battle
of the Stars as Millbrook came to battle our boys in a fast paced, exciting
game of hockey. The opening music blared,
and our squad took to the ice in what would be a tight first two periods of
play. L. Armstrong manned our net and stood firm the entire game, stopping all
but one of Millbrook’s shot attempts.
This was a very sound defensive game for the stars, who
managed to keep the shots on goal to a minimum and constantly cleared the net
of opposing players so that no dangerous chances were permitted. Newcastle opened
the scoring with center Carter Lessels popping a quick shot past Millbrook’s tender.
Next to reach the scoresheet and build a Newcastle lead was Lucas Munns whose
signature shot immobilized the opposing goalie. Strong defensive play by Hawkin Ross and Lukas
Kovacs sent the game 2-0 into the second frame. In the second, Millbrook would
strike with a quick goal with Millbrook’s #91 getting a single goal.
The third period saw Newcastle completely lock the game
down. No goals against were scored and our defense, led by Denver Griffin, Graeme
Brown, and Nicholas Danylyshen started to compile the assists by feeding Max Stoker,
star center, pass after pass. Stoker buried three into Milbrook’s net and got
his first hat-trick of the season. (Hats would’ve rained down, for sure, if it
wasn’t for the big gap between the stands and the ice surface.) Liam Armstrong,
too, had a very strong game by adding the sixth goal for your hard-working Stars
and putting the game out of Millbrook’s reach. This was perhaps the best game
so far by your stars. Everything was working this evening and the stars
improved to two wins and a tie. Our secondary scoring is now happening, and
many lads are building team chemistry. We face the Stars again in Millbrook Monday
night where the battle will resume for round two. GO STARS!
