Tryout Schedule (Newcastle Village Minor Hockey Association)

Recent & Upcoming Tryouts


TRY-OUT INFORMATION:

 

The selection committee is made up of neutral on/off ice coaches/evaluators with final approval of the head coach. Assessment will be based on technical skills demonstrated in drills and team play during scrimmages. Respect, Effort, Attitude, and Discipline will be evaluated throughout.

 

Releases may commence at the completion of the second try-out.

 

*Participants interested in a possible second entry team must first attend the Tier 1 tryouts. Possible second entry teams will be decided based on numbers & interest, and only if Available via Vic Durham*

 

Cost is $20.00 per player per skate.  Detailed schedule is below, as well on the calendar

 

Please bring your child 30 minutes prior to tryout times so we may coordinate registration and player jersey allocation.

 

Attendance is mandatory to allow fair evaluation for all.  If you require an exemption for any of the below dates, please advise the coach directly. Coach’s discretion will be used to waive any of the above tryout dates.

 

League jerseys will be supplied and must be returned upon completion of each tryout. Please bring your own personal water bottle. Full Equipment is mandatory including mouth guards and neck guards.

 

Eligibility:

Residents from Newcastle/Newtonville - You must be registered with Newcastle Hockey prior to coming to tryouts.

Residents from Orono - if a rep team for your age group cannot be fielded in Orono hockey, you must get a permission to skate form from your Association to attend Newcastle Rep Tryouts.

Residents from outside the above areas wanting to come to Newcastle (ie. Bowmanville, Courtice. Port Hope, etc):

Newcastle Hockey will be accepting NRP (Non-Residential Players) for the 2024-2025 season for U13 through U18. The maximum allowed NRPs per team is 3.

OMHA rules in place below: 

1) U13 age and up only
2) Try out in home center for AA, A, AE (levels that are valid)
3) You will then need a release from home center
4) You can then try out for Newcastle Rep, presenting the release first night of tryout
5) If you make the team, Newcastle does 3.5 Non Resident Passport

Juvenile - Open to players born in 2006, 2005, and 2004 (maximum of 6 players from 2004), Players must meet OMHA residency rule in order to be rostered.
